Golden Gloves Tournament
For 90 years, the NY Daily News has hosted Golden Gloves, the premier amateur boxing tournament in the country. Starting in 1927, boxers have competed against the top local talent for their chance to win the New York Golden Gloves championship and take home their own pair of golden gloves. The tournament has been the starting point for boxing greats and world champions, including Floyd Patterson, Sugar Ray Robinson, Mark Breland, Howard Davis Jr., Riddick Bowe, Zab Judah, Sadam Ali, Danny Jacobs, Alicia Ashley, Melissa Salamone, Keisha McLeod, Sonia Lamonakis, and Christina Cruz.
It was a knockout experience working on this event for several years in a row. When planning the 2014 tournament, we were tasked with creating a new brand identity. The impactful new look got to the root of the tournament and focused on the event’s strong history that has formed over the years. While the tournament produces champions inside the ring, many of the boxers became community leaders as well, and this concept was brought to life with the ‘We Produce Champions’ tagline.
The new identity included a logo refresh, creation of a new hall of fame logo, digital and print ads, strengthening the Facebook and Instagram presence, designing tournament schedules, posters, and flyers. We also produced was all printed and digital materials for the finals held at Barclays Center. This included the finals program/keepsake book, bout sheets, and artwork for the screens inside and around the stadium.
